Trucks, tractors, crushers and other machines of all kinds were necessary to transform, in five years, a farm into a contemporary art gallery which desires to present works as well as inside (an ancient farm-house of thirty-five-meters) as in situ in the open country (fifteen hectares).
Earth, gravel, sand, cement, iron, wood, were necessary… Much more will be necessary. Absidial has not the vocation to serve easel-painting alone. The land which is composed by swamps and fields, has a steep gradient, is crossed by the Arz river, is adorned by an inventoried dolmen, serves as an inspiration for the most varied manners and materials.
The eclectic and enthusiastic Philippe Besnier, the Absidial gallery founder who made the Nantais discover many artists in the plastic arts between 1980 and 1989, is always indifferent about the fact of belonging to an unique school or trend. What only matter is the creator's individuality and his own personal convictions therefore ignoring the calculations of those who give in to fads in order to gain flattering official recognition.
Sculpture, photos, paintings and installations of all sizes, styles and makings are received nine miles from Vannes and the Gulf of Morbihan, in the center of Lanvaux moors, in the two (small and large) showrooms of the stone building, as well as among willows and ferns, chestnut trees and rushes, oaks and irises. Absidial, by celebrating its 20th anniversary, has relocated and created new spaces. For the joy of art and the exchange of ideas.
